Arts & Culture

Visit our “renaissance” community of Twentynine Palms, California! Since 1994, local residents and merchants have been busy creating a world-class mural program and revitalizing our downtown area.  We offer art galleries, espresso houses, specialty shops, an “Oasis of Murals,” as well as many resident artists, muralists, and creative folks everywhere you go in Twentynine. While art is no stranger in our desert (we had a very active art community here in the 1940s), we think you will enjoy exploring our NEW cultural scene in Twentynine Palms.

Gallery 29
The land of free-spirited artists and creative souls who live on the
edge of the Mojave Desert ... “Gallery 29” features some of our
finest local talent--painters, mural artists, wood and metal sculptors,
and other artistic denizens of the desert.

29 Palms Art Gallery
Our community art gallery, hosted by the 29 Palms Artists’ Guild--which was founded in 1952.

Desert Art Studio
Resident muralist Chuck Caplinger offers portraits, paintings, and murals of the Southwest in his Desert Art Studio--which now has its own web site.

Oasis of Murals
The “Oasis of Murals” is the best thing to happen to Twentynine Palms in many a decade.  Take a peek at our world-class murals online in this virtual tour.

Old Schoolhouse Museum
The Twentynine Palms Historical Society renovated our 1928 schoolhouse and turned it into a desert gold mining/homesteading museum, library and gift shop.

Cinema
We are keeping an American tradition alive with our local Smith’s Ranch Drive-in Theater, which shows first-run movies nightly under the desert sky.

The Sun Runner Magazine
For an overview of the social scene in Twentynine Palms, see our monthly Sun Runner Arts & Entertainment Magazine online!

Dick Dale
This King of the Surf Guitar and “Father of Heavy Metal” guitarist lives in our desert communty and continues to rock the world with his music.
